Terms of Use

1. What Keel is

Keel is a mobile app designed to support your mental wellbeing through daily mood tracking, guided exercises (breathing, grounding, body scan), journaling, structured multi-week programmes, AI-powered conversations using CBT, DBT, and ACT techniques, safety planning, and personalised insights based on your data.

2. What Keel is not

Keel is not a medical device, diagnostic tool, or substitute for professional care. It does not provide clinical diagnoses, prescribe medication, replace therapy, or guarantee any health outcomes. The PHQ-9 wellbeing assessment is a screening tool used to track your own progress over time. It is not a clinical diagnosis. The AI does not have clinical training.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Keel, in accordance with GDPR Article 8.

4. Your responsibilities

• Use the app for personal wellness only
• Do not rely on Keel as your sole source of mental health support
• Seek professional help when needed, and use the "Find a therapist" feature to locate support in your country
• Do not use Keel in place of emergency services during a crisis
• Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, misuse, or manipulate the AI

5. AI conversations and safety

Keel's AI uses Anthropic's Claude language model. Responses are generated automatically and may not always be accurate or appropriate. Safety filters are in place to prevent harmful responses, including crisis detection, validation boundaries, and distortion-endorsement filters. No automated system is perfect. If you receive a response that feels wrong or harmful, stop the session and contact support.

The AI remembers information from previous sessions to provide continuity. You can view and delete these memories at any time in profile settings.

6. Free and premium plans

Keel offers a free tier with limited sessions per day and a premium tier with unlimited sessions, advanced insights (mood forecast, burnout risk, technique effectiveness), and all programmes. Premium subscriptions are managed through the App Store and can be cancelled at any time. A 7-day free trial may be offered. If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged.

7. Safety plan and crisis features

Keel includes a personal safety plan feature based on the Stanley-Brown Safety Planning Intervention. This is a self-help tool, not a clinical intervention. It is stored only on your device and is never synced to any server. Keel also includes crisis detection and will direct you to local crisis resources when needed. These are safety measures, not clinical services.

8. Your data

Your data is stored locally on your device by default. If you sign in, selected data is backed up to secure servers in the EU. You are responsible for exporting your data before uninstalling if you have not signed in. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

9. Availability

Keel is provided as-is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access. AI conversations require an internet connection and depend on third-party services. Offline features (check-ins, journaling, exercises, safety plan) work without a connection.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Keel shall not be liable for: decisions made based on AI responses, emotional distress from app interactions, data loss from device failure or uninstallation, third-party service outages, or any indirect or consequential damages. You use Keel at your own discretion. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for matters which cannot be excluded under applicable law.

11. Intellectual property

The Keel app, its design, content, programme materials, and code are owned by Keel. Programme content is based on evidence-based therapeutic techniques and is presented for educational purposes. You may not copy, modify, or distribute the app or its content without permission.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to Keel if these terms are violated, if the app is used to generate harmful content, or if misuse of the AI is detected. You can stop using Keel at any time by uninstalling the app and deleting your account if applicable.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Denmark. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Danish courts, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence within the EU.

14. Changes to these terms

If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and notify users via the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
